This 2-part series provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of Hepatitis B prevention, vaccination, screening, and management.

In Part 1, participants will explore essential knowledge on Hepatitis B prevention and vaccination, including CDC recommendations, risk factors, and the importance of immunization. This module equips professionals with the tools to identify at-risk populations and implement effective vaccination strategies to combat Hepatitis B.

In Part 2, the focus shifts to screening, testing, and management of Hepatitis B. Participants will learn CDC guidelines for screening, appropriate antiviral therapies, and personalized treatment plans based on the stage of infection. The course will also guide healthcare professionals in assessing patient needs, recommending treatments, and effectively monitoring HBV, ensuring optimal patient care.

This series is designed to provide healthcare providers with a well-rounded, actionable approach to combatting Hepatitis B.

Nicole Young
PharmD, BCCCP

Dr. Young is a board-certified critical care pharmacist and an Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy. She is currently serving as the chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. She practices in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at The Queen's Medical Center where she precepts students on experiential rotations. Dr. Young teaches didactic lectures for both pharmacy and medicine students in the areas of oncology, critical care, and neurology.

Dr. Sheri Tokumaru

Sheri Tokumaru

PharmD, BCCCP

Dr. Tokumaru is a board-certified critical care pharmacist and an Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy. She practices in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at The Queen's Medical Center. In the classroom, Dr. Tokumaru teaches in the areas of stroke, infectious disease, critical care, and cardiology. She holds a gubernatorial appointment on the Hawai'i State Board of Pharmacy and also serves on the Hawaii Interprofessional Education Workgroup (HIPE) preparing University of Hawaii health professional students to collaborate as interprofessional teams.  

Dr. Cherie Chu

Cherie Chu

PharmD, BCCCP

Dr. Chu is a board-certified critical care pharmacist and an Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy. She practices in the Intensive Care Unit at Adventist Health Castle Medical and holds a gubernatorial appointment on the Health Planning Council for the Windward Oahu Subarea. Dr. Chu teaches didactic lectures in clinical pharmacokinetics, critical care, cardiology, pain management, and nutrition management. She is also involved with the Hawaii Antimicrobial Stewardship Collaborative in partnership with the State Department of Health.
